Long time clients of MTK Design Group, Terri and Scott embarked on a new adventure by taking on a fixer upper on Cedar Creek Lake southeast of the metroplex. Odd shaped, closed off and dark, the main living space didn’t feel right for the setting it contained, so the clients began by removing a wall that divided the Living and Kitchen to open up opportunity for natural light and entertaining.

The Kitchen was gutted and a small window removed to allow for more blueprint options which now contains to-ceiling cabinets that elongate the once-closed off room. Waterproof wood-look flooring and all new appliances were installed to complete the care-free maintenance a lake house should include. All new paint colors now brighten and highlight unique features like the brick fireplace and geometric stairwell railing, which is where Megan took inspiration for the remaining furnishings and decor. “The stairwell is somewhat oddly placed in the heart of the Living Room, but instead of hiding it, the fresh paint now creates a focal point and I wanted the decor to correlate so that it wouldn’t overpower the space, starting with the geometric oversized rug. The pattern stands up to the stairs while also blending with the color palette and chic feeling we desired.” says Megan Kranz, (Owner and Lead Designer of MTK Design Group) about the jumping point for the decor. The seating arrangement now enlarges the space and draws attention to the soothing lake view. A bonus under-the-stairs built-in allows for extra storage and a new textured light fixture def
